Dublin to Kilkenny via County Wicklow, Killarney and Galway

This is an 8 day roadtrip taking you from our Wicked depot in Dublin, through Glendalough, Kilkenny, right down to Killarney, up through Limerick and into Galway, returning in Dublin. Escape the capital and soak up the medieval, beautiful and historic south east of Ireland.

Visit the Guinness Store House, learn all about the history of Arthur Guinness and enjoy a cold one in the sky bar whilst overlooking the glorious Irish capital. Check out the National Archaeological Museum with it’s awesome collection of Medieval and Viking Dublin, as well as the biggest collection of bronze age gold in Europe.

The Dublin Zoo – this place rocks! Cruise to the Phoenix Park (the biggest Parkland in Europe) and check out the third oldest zoo in the world. Considered as one of Ireland's main attractions - check out the animals, flower gardens and deer running wild.

Looking for a good night out in Dublin? Check out the Temple Bar area on the south bank of the River Liffey. Plenty of great food and live music on every corner.

Cruise on down to Glendalough via Wicklow

Head south down to County Wicklow, also known as the garden of Ireland. The Wicklow National Park is absolutely beautiful. Wicklow is a real treasure with its magnificent mountains, long sandy beaches, rivers, lakes and forests. County Wicklow is renowned for its natural beauty and boasts outstanding and breath-taking scenery of mountains, valleys, lakes, cascading waterfalls and coastlines.

There is an abundance of local attractions to visit during your break in Wicklow. Highlights include the charming villages of Enniskerry, Bray, Greystones, Glendallough Powerscourt House and more.

If you have time, drop in at Glendalough on your way to Kilkenny. Glendalough is about an hour and a half drive from Dublin, home to one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland.

Experience the architecture of Kilkenny and the Rock of Cashel

If you dig your history and architecture, you’re going to love Kilkenny. With an 800-year-old Norman castle looking over the ancient streets, expect plenty of photo ops here. Take a walk along the coble stone lanes and soak up the cities amazing history.

Discover Black Abbey, founded in the 1220s and just outside the original walls of Kilkenny City. Enjoy a cold pint in one of the many great pubs that the city has to offer.

Visit the Rock of Cashel on the way (about an hour and a half from Kilkenny), a small historic town in County Tipperary. The Rock of Cashel are a spectacular group of Medieval buildings, including the 12th century round tower, High Cross and Romanesque Chapel, 13th century Gothic cathedral, 15th century Castle and the restored Hall of the Vicars Choral. Definitely recommended.

Take the beautiful drive to Killarney

From Cashel, head down to Killarney (about 2.5 hours drive), with the main highlight being the National Park. The park contains 3 lakes, wood land and breathtaking mountain views. Look out for the original Kerry Cattle and the deer roaming in the fields. The national park has too many historic sites which can't be missed!

You could stay in Killarney for a night and then take the morning tour of the Ring of Kerry. This is a popular coastal drive, famous for it's fantastic landscape across Ireland’s most western point.

Pass by Ireland's highest moutains - Carrauntoohil and take a visit to the Kerry Bog Village. The ring of Kerry is around 216 Kilometers long and a highlight on your Wicked roadtrip.

Take a day trip to Dingle Peninsula

If time isn't an issue, an alternative on your roadtrip could be the Dingle Peninsula. Along the Peninsula you'll find one of Ireland's longest beaches, ancient beehive huts and spectacular coastal views.

Just north of Dingle is Mount Brandon, with its coastal plain lying along the western side - discover classic Irish hamlets and villages.

The western end of the peninsula offers magnificent coastal scenery. Check out the awesome sealife centre - Mara Beo Teo and witness the sealife of the peninsula in all its glory. Take the road to Ballyferriter village and go for a walk on Beál Bán beach, only really known to locals. Once you see the views of the vast Atlantic, you’ll see why they’ve kept it to themselves.

Head north to Adare, Limerick and up into medieval Galway

Start the trek towards Galway! Drive from Killarney in the direction of Limerick. Before you arrive in Limerick you'll discover a small town called Adare. It's one of Ireland most beautiful town, with thatched cottages and rolling hills. From there, take a drive on to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park.

The castle, built in 1425, was restored in 1954 to its former medieval splendour and houses the Bunratty Collection - 450 pieces of medieval furniture and artefacts.

Within the grounds is the folk park, where 19th-century life is vividly recreated. Set on 26 acres, the impressive park features over 30 buildings, including a schoolhouse, post office and doctors house in a living village setting. The castle is located just outside Limerick on the N18 road to Galway and open during the day through October.

Drive into the Burren Region and visit the world famous Cliffs of Moher - soak up the breathtaking views across the Atlantic Ocean. The Cliffs are located close to a town called Dollin, famous for it's local pubs and Irish Music. Doolin is located in Burren, a unique Limestone landscape formed in the last ice age. Explore Burren National Park, the Ailwee Caves and more.

Next stop - Galway! From the Burren, it's roughly an hour and a half drive. Galway is a city founded in the medieval times, nowadays a vibrant student city full of rich history. Known as the City of the Tribes, this thriving city is the most westerly in Europe. In the heart of the city, discover plenty of great shooping and some of the best pubs in town such as the Kings Head.

There are plenty of options to chose from before returning your Wicked Camper in Dublin. Explore the landscapes around Galway or visit sights on the way from Galway to Dublin. You really are spoilt for choice.

Galway to Athlone and return to Dublin

Time to head back to Dublin baby! Here's just a few things to check out on your way back.

The awesome cathedral ruins in Clonnmacnoise, near Athlone are a highlight. One of the most famous monastic sites in Ireland, Clonmacnoise is found along the River Shannon, just 8km from the village of Shannonbridge, County Offaly. It has attracted scholars from throughout Europe and was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1979.

If you still have a bit of time on your hands, why not check out the Boyne Valley, along the River Boyne (just north of the capital). A landscape riddled with passage tombs, monastic ruins and bloody battlefields (also famous for the Braveheart movie). The Boyne Valley is one long list of Ireland’s must-sees: Newgrange, the Hill of Tara, Trim Castle, Monasterboice and so much more. All on the doorstep of Dublin baby.
