3rd - 6th Roskilde www.roskilde-festival.dk
Roskilde, Near Copenhagen, Denmark
This festival has been going since 1971 and it’s also one of the biggest in Europe, along with Glastonbury so you can expect a good line up and lots to do. So far Radiohead have been announced as playing this year, along with My Bloody Valentine and Chemical Brothers. Apparently the campsite is opened on the last weekend in June so you can get there nice and early for what’s called ‘the warm up’. Sounds cosy doesn’t it? Why don’t you go in a Wicked camper? Make your friends jealous!
3rd – 6th
Wireless Festival www.o2wirelessfestival.co.uk
Hyde Park, London
In it’s 4th year this year, this gives you Londoners a chance to mooch on down to the glorious Hyde Park and soak up the sounds of Fat Boy Slim, Underworld and Bootsy Collins and the Rubber Band! It’s London Baby!
4th – 6th Blissfields www.blissfields.co.uk
Matterley Bowl, Nr. Winchester It’s a family affair-air-air. It’s a family affair-air-air. You get the picture, it’s a small festival but sometimes they’re the best! Anyway, the Wonder Stuff are headlining here (you remember, The Size of a Cow?) and other bands on include Peggy Sue and the Pirates. Ooo aahhh!
4th - 6th Open’er www.opener.pl
Gdynia, Poland
Also known as the Heineken Open’er festival, they’ll be no surprises with what beer you’ll be drinking here then… Set in the grounds of a military airport in Poland with the likes of M.I.A, Chemical Brothers and Gentlemen and the Far East Band playing, it’s a winner! Previous bands have included Sonic Youth, Byork, Beastie Boys and Muse so keep checking out their website for more announcements and head East this summer! In one of our vans, naturally.
4th - 6th
Guilfest www.guilfest.co.uk
Guildford, Surrey
Just down the road from London really in posh Surrey. Practice saying it correctly now: ‘Surr-eh’, that’ll make sure that you blend in just fine…Honest guv. Anyway, this festival is quite a small one but seems to be growing in size year by year. Last time the bands that played here included the Magic Numbers, Morcheeba and Supergrass. They’re yet to announce their 2008 line up as we’re writing this but that’s probably changed by now, so take a look at their website why don’t you. Do you need us to do everything for you? Well, just click on the link above then to the website. Not yet! Ok, now.
11th - 13th
T In The Park www.tinthepark.com
Balado, Scotland
This popular festival has been going since 1994 and has attracted big names over the years like the Foo Fighters, Green Day, The Who and The Killers. It’s named after the Tennents Brewery in Scotland and we can personally recommend this beer so make sure you try some, and bring some back for us! Anyway, the festival is roughly twinned with the Oxegen festival in Ireland which means that a lot of the bands will play at one then play at the other on the alternate day. So from that we can perhaps summise that Kings of Leon may be playing at T in the Park as they’re on the list at Oxegen. Cunning eh? The rest of the line up is a mystery right now but watch this space… Well, not this space exactly, it’s an expression you know. 11th - 13th
Oxegen www.oxegen.ie
Punchestown Racecourse, Ireland
If you’re reading this in the right order then you’ll already know that this festival is the sort-of sibling of the festival above. And no, we still don’t know what the line up is. But we do know that it’s a ruddy good festival and you should go in a Wicked camper! You can get one from our Belfast depot you know and take a pleasant drive to County Kildare, find the Racecourse and ROCK out! Tickets go on sale March 7, be there or be square.
16th - 20th Larmer Tree www.larmertreefestival.co.uk
Salisbury
More of a folk/jazz festival than full-on Rock, the Larmer Tree festival offers an alternative option for the festival season. In it’s 18th year this year the festival is set in glorious grounds where the actual Larmer Tree used to stand. With a line up including Jools Holland, and the amazing Kate Rusby, this laid back country party would go down well in any ones book. Especially with a nice ale. Oooh, I can imagine it now, pass me one would you?
17th - 20th
Latitude www.latitudefestival.co.uk
Henham Park, Southwold, Suffolk
This festival is just two years old this year but has already made a big impact on the festival circuit. Possibly because it’s organised by the Mean Fiddler (festival republic) group who also look after Reading and Leeds, oh and Glastonbury, so they’re quite good at festivals then… The line up from last year included the mighty Jarvis Cocker, CSS and Arcade Fire. Blimey. Did I hear you say you wanted to go? In a Wicked van?
17th - 20th Benicassim www.benicassimfestival.co.uk
Spain
A festival on the beach? In sunny Spain? Well, that sounds like a good place to be! With acts like Babyshambles, My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized and American Music Club playing, it’s a veritable feast of summer lovin’. A wella wella wella huh!
18th - 20th Camp Bestival www.campbestival.net
Lulworth Castle, Dorset
I have to say, if Lulworth Castle is anywhere near Lulworth Cove (which I suspect it is) it’s worth going just for that Jurassic coastline glory. Anyway, the festival itself is run by Sunday Best (Rob Da Bank) and is a super close relative to Bestival held on the Isle of Wight in September. Camp Bestival is having it’s first outing this year but looks pretty promising so far with Chuck Berry and The Flaming Lips headlining, and Suzanne Vega, Scroobius Pip, Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong also playing and many others to boot! It’s also offering a 1950s style Holiday camp feel which is reason enough to book your ticket (and Wicked van) right now! Hi de hi! Ho de ho!
18th - 20th
Glade www.gladefestival.com
Berkshire
This festival apparently started out as a stage at Glastonbury, it’s been going independently since 2004. Glade is an electronic music festival so if you’re into the likes of UNKLE, Dreadzone, and A Guy called Gerald this one could be for you!
19th - 20th
Lovebox www.loveboxweekender.com
Victoria Park, Hackney, London
Here’s one for the London massive! This festival is organised by Groove Armada and brings together a range of acts in Londons East End. You can buy daily tickets for around £30 which is a bargain for the line up. So far the Flaming Lips are on the bill as are the curiously named ‘Horsemeat Disco’. Hmmm.
25th - 27th
WOMAD http://womad.org
Charlton Park, Wiltshire
WOMAD stands for World of Music, Arts and Dance so that’s the kind of thing you can expect from this festival Some of the acts already announced include Boy George and Roni Size from the UK, Kora from New Zealand, Mista Savona from Australia and many many others! Personally, I’m thinking that the Tashi Lhunpo Monks from Tibet are going to be well worth a look in.
25th - 27th
Secret Garden Party www.secretgardenparty.com
Nr. Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
Ooooh, it’s all so damn secretive I don’t know much about it at all… This festival is pretty new and small, another one of those boutique-type events. Acts that played last year included Echo and the Bunnymen and New Young Pony Club, the line up this year is yet to be announced but should be a good’un!
25th - 26th
Global Gathering www.globalgathering.co.uk
Long Marston Airfield, nr Stratford-Upon-Avon
Global Gathering brings dance music to the festival scene for two days of crazy partying on an airfield! Last year, Faithless played here, along with Paul Van Dyk and 2Many Djs too. So, if this sounds good to you then get your ticket now, before it sells out numb nuts.
25th - 26th
The Wickerman www.thewickermanfestival.co.uk
Galloway, Scotland
Ah, the Wickerman, brings back fond memories… blazing fires of huge scary effigys with crazy, deluded fools dancing and singing around it. So, a good idea for a festival then! And of course there’s the ceremonial burning of the Wickerman at the end of the festival, just make sure you don’t get trapped inside. Jesus Christ Nooooooo! Anyway, there’s an eclectic line up ready to perform here with popular favourites the Red Hot Chilli Pipers (yes, that’s PIPERS) appearing.
